Formula 1 three times world champion, Lewis Hamilton, 31, is being investigated by police in New Zealand following a video which shows him filming while driving a motorbike (Harley Davidson) on Auckland motorway.
Lewis is currently visiting New Zealand ahead of Australian Grand Prix coming up on 20th March.
Police spokesman has confirmed that they are reviewing the footage and if Lewis is found to be using a mobile phone to record the footage by hand as opposed to from a fixed device then there is a problem as using a mobile phone while driving became illegal in New Zealand in 2009.
"If there is a clear evidence that a mobile phone has been used to record this footage and it has been recorded by hand as opposed to from a fixed device, then this would be deemed as an offence", the spokesman said.
At one point in the video posted by Lewis Hamilton, the camera pans over Hamilton's shoulder to shoot the traffic behind him.
If Hamilton is found guilty, this will not be the first time he has broken road rules.
Lewis was suspended from driving in 2007 for a month in France with his Mercedes Benz CLK impounded for speeding at 196km/h.
Hamilton also in 2010 was arrested and charged in Melbourne Australia for performing a 'burnout' or intentionally losing control of his vehicle in a busy street in Melbourne. He was fined $500.
Hamilton has already drawn attention to himself in New Zealand when he accused the Sky City Casino of treating him badly and asked his fans not to go there.
Lewis had written in a now deleted post,
"Don't ever go to the Sky City Casino in Auckland, they treated me like dirt. Can't believe how rude they were. Worst casino experience ever", he wrote.
Update:
The police in New Zealand is no longer pursuing the case as there is no evidence to continue.
